V.Y. Pogrebnyakov holds the title of Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation and has been awarded the Medal "For Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd Class" and an Honorary Certificate from the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation.

In 2012, for his significant contributions to surgery and science, he received the A.V. Vishnevsky Memorial Medal from the A.V. Vishnevsky Institute of Surgery (Russian Academy of Medical Sciences).
